Meredith Keats, a journalist based in Denver who covers abortion issues, says she was surprised at the timing of the announcement.
오피“I think people should have gotten used to it before the start of the pregnancy so they knew where they stood politically,” Keats told CBC News. “They just didn’t know that I’d had an abortion.”
In her view, the timing of the announcement is strange given the Supreme Court’s decision last month to stop enforcement of abortion laws that ban abortions prior to viability.
In an extraordinary decision Monday, the court upheld the right of a group of five women to sue the federal government for allegedly violating their constitutional right to privacy.
That decision effectively banned the laws on a federal level.
In the U.S., abortion is regulated by each state through its laws. So, some states have abortion laws that restrict procedures to when a baby is viable, or fetal viability, within a certain number of weeks.
Some states restrict abortions to women who have been diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, like sickle cell anemia, or when they must be rushed to term.
Keats and her colleagues spent more than a week reporting on the news of what would be a historic night in the lives of abortion opponents.

Keats says she spent more than half of her day preparing for the event she’s calling C-section C.
“In my whole day-to-day routine, I’m not sure I ever did a C-section, because I was going from one place to another and I’d still have to bring my daughter into the clinic and give birth to her in front of the mirror,” said Keats.
She says this week has changed a lot for her since her abortion clinic first opened in Denver in 2009 and she knows more people will be arriving this week.
